Amitabh Harivanshrai Bachchan was born on October 11, 1942. His birthplace is Allahabad, UP. His ancestors belonged to Babupatti Village in Raniganj of Pratapgarh Dist. in UP. His mother Teji Bachchan was a Sikh from Faisalabad, Punjab and his father Shri. Harivansh Rai Bachchan was a legendary Hindi poet. He was initially named as Inquilaab. The name was influenced from Inquilab Zindabad, a phrase widely used during the struggle for India’s independence. It refers to “Long Live the Revolution”. With the suggestion of co-poet, Harivansh ji changed his name to Amitabh, which refers to “a light which never dies”.
Earlier his surname was Shrivastava. Later on, father of Amitabh changed it to Bachchan and he published all of his poems under this surname. Amitabh debuted with this last name and for all the practical works. His mother died in 2007 and father in 2003. He studied at Sherwood College Nainital and later on Kirori Mal College, Delhi University. His mother was passionate in theatre and offered a role in a feature film but she couldn’t accept because of her domestic duties. His mother always wanted him to take the center stage. He married to Jaya Bhaduri and they have two children Abhishek Bachchan and Shweta Nanda.
